I’m definitely guilty of not exploring what’s on my own doorstep. While hiking in Yosemite was a crucial part of last year’s California itinerary, it dawned on me that I’d never even climbed Snowdon — Wales and England’s highest mountain peak, famed for its epic views.
Don’t be put off by the hour-long, jam-packed Vaporetto ride to get to the island of Burano — it’s totally worth it.
I’m selfishly writing this post more for myself than my readers, as I wanted to begin the New Year by reflecting on an amazing 12 months. From living the California dream to learning a new skill, 2016 brought lots of special moments. Here’s 16 of them.

It’s been nearly six months since I returned from California yet I’m still dreaming about Santa Barbara, my favourite of the coastal cities that we visited.
After spending the day exploring Venice (read about that here!), we headed out for an apéritif and dinner.
This was my favourite time to see the city. Not only was it cooler and less crowded, the evening sunlight made it even prettier and more romantic.
