Top 3 British… Problems

The British are known for being an awkward nation, just look at Hugh Grant in Notting Hill. Even greeting one another is a social minefield… do you double kiss, single kiss, hand shake, hug, fist pump…?

Well, perhaps not the fist pump.

But this is why, like thousands of other Twitter users, I follow VeryBritishProblems‘ hilarious observations about the challenges of modern life in Britain. Nodding knowingly and with a smile of amusement, I have to fight the desire to retweet every post.

Here, VBP Creator Rob Temple, shares the Top 3 British Problems (based on the most re-tweeted):

1) Repeatedly pressing the door button on the train before it’s illuminated, to assure your fellow commuters you have the situation in hand.

2) Being unable to turn and walk in the opposite direction without first taking out your phone and frowning at it.

3) Saying you’re pleased with your haircut despite the deep inner sadness it’s causing you.

I learnt the hard way of problem #3 when a haircut resulted in a Rod Stewart style crop. Bad times.

Rob Temple’s Very British Problems is due to be published as an illustrated hardback and e-book this October, and will include unseen material.
